Terms of use

These terms apply to the Sidenote website and Uma, our private context library.

Who provides the service

The website and Uma are provided by Sidenote, Lda., NIF PT514061286, with its registered office at Rua João Saraiva 36, 3.º piso, 1700-350 Lisboa. You can contact us at hello@sidenotehq.com.

Uma is available at uma.sidenotehq.com and uma.sidenote.pt. These terms also cover access through its former address, base.sidenotehq.com. Separate products linked from this website may have their own terms.

Using your account

Provide accurate account details and keep your password and sign-in methods secure. You are responsible for activity you authorise through your account. Tell us if you suspect unauthorised access.

Use the service lawfully. Do not access another person’s account or private contexts, interfere with security or availability, distribute malicious software, or use the service to infringe anyone’s rights. Only store information you are entitled to use.

Your content

You keep ownership of the content you put into Uma. You give us a limited permission to store, process, reproduce and transmit it only as needed to provide the service, including saving, displaying, exporting, backing up and supporting it.

That permission does not give us ownership of your content or permission to sell it or use it for advertising. It ends when the content is removed from the service, subject to the backup retention and legal obligations described in our privacy policy.

Exports and external AI tools

Uma helps you organise context and export saved Markdown. It does not automatically send your contexts to an external AI service. You decide what to copy, download, paste or upload elsewhere.

Review exports before sharing them, especially personal, confidential or third-party information. External services have their own terms and data practices. You are responsible for choosing what you share and for checking any output or advice they generate.

The website and its materials

The Sidenote name, website design and our own materials remain ours or their respective owners’. You may read and use the website for its intended purpose. These terms do not transfer rights to our branding or to third-party materials.

Availability and changes

We maintain and improve the service, but availability can be interrupted by maintenance, faults or security incidents. Features may change. Keep copies of any context you need independently of Uma.

We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address misuse, a security risk or a legal obligation. Where practicable, we will explain a material restriction and how to contact us about it.

If we change these terms, we will update the date on this page and give appropriate notice of material changes affecting existing use.

Deletion and support

You can delete contexts in Uma and delete your account in account settings. Export anything you want to keep first. Account deletion removes your account and its contexts from the active application; backup copies rotate under the retention described in our privacy policy.

For help, an access problem or a request concerning your account, contact hello@sidenotehq.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Your legal rights

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that applicable law gives you, including mandatory consumer rights, or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If an individual provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
